near Viñales, Pinar del Rio Provence
The place that I go to, when I want to get away from it all!
I just like the place!
There's not much to do there, but the location is stunning! Where else could you open you front door, and walk straight out onto a pristine white beach? You need to get on a boat to get there, so it all adds to the feeling of being on a tropical Caribbean Island.
Kick you shoes off, and go searching for starfish along the beach!
I have some very happy memories of this place...lovely staff.
Why not stay in the hotel on the Island? Hotel rooms are generally to a high standard, and with the best view in Cuba! 20 meters in front of you is the Caribbean Sea!
The easiest (& cheapest) way to get to Cayo Levisa is from Viñales. There is no public transport to Palma Rubia. The Journey takes between 45 minute and 1 hour. The road can be a little windy in places - just be aware if you are prone to travel sickness (like me!)
By Mini Bus
The tour agencies in Viñales run a daily transfer to Palma Rubia for 10CUC (£) per person each way. This is probably the best option if you have made a hotel reservation yourself. The mini bus leaves from opposite the Main Plaza at 8am.
A private taxi will cost about 40CUC (£) return to Palma Rubia (the port where you pick up the boat to Cayo Levisa), or a Government Taxi will cost you in the region of 50CUC (£) return.
*IMPORTANT - Arrange for your Taxi to pick you up again, as it can be very difficult getting away from Palma Rubia otherwise. You don't want to be stranded there...
The Boat to Cayo Levisa
There are two boats a day to Cayo Levisa from the small port of Palma Rubia. The trip takes about 25 minutes. There is not much shade or shelter on the boat.
