What to Buy in Cuba
There isn’t much to buy in Cuba.
The main things to buy are rum, cigars and (of course) lots of Salsa music CDs. They sell just about everything with Che Guevara on it, as he is the national hero.
While it is expected to haggle in many cultures, in general haggleing in Cuba is NOT usual. You could try asking “is that your best price?” to see if they are open to negotiation, but don’t be offended if they do not come down on price.
Bear in mind that it can be very expensive and rarely reliable to send packages home so try to buy only what you can carry home.
Paintings are a good buy, you may require a customs receipt. You can find many places to buy locally painted art in the stalls of the artizan market near the ferrier in Havana Viaja. There is a large souvenir market which is full of local artisan pieces.
