What about bugs & creepy crawlies in Cuba?

Like any other tropical country, Cuba has a number of bugs, although in my experience, the mosquito population is not that bad.

I suggest you use insect repellent before going out in the evenings, (but remember to bring it with you, as decent brands are difficult to find in the shops).

There can be sand flies on some of the beaches at certain times of the year. insect repellent will help here too, but why not just hire a sun-lounger and get off the sand?

I have been bitten by tiny little black flies, which itch like crazy!  I call them 'fruit flies' and Turbo calls them 'jejen' or gnats.

There are no poisonous snakes in Cuba.
